For those of you who choose to present in the DECADE Parade there is no time to waste! It is expected to be between 1/2 mile to 1 mile long. There is limited road space--so it is first come, first served. We area already taking several legs for our dignitaries and luminaries, and, our own final Solar King and Queen float.
How much space can you get?
Your commitment must be no less than one leg of the Parade; however, if your performers or float requires two legs you can purchase an additional leg.
Each leg measures forty-six (46) feet. We aim to add an additional gap between each Parader's leg of up to 12 feet.
How wide is the road?
Right now we have a green light on University Avenue which is extremely wide with four lanes and wide sidewalks able to hold many spectators. We will soon announce our marshalling venue.
Trajectory
The Parade will take place downtown Toronto, on University Avenue. Try Google Earth to see how that road looks.
What can you present in the Parade?
You can use your imagination but your presentation must be excellent and approved by our office. You can manufacture your own float (or we can make it for you nearby) or you can sponsor other performers (band, costumed marched, choir, buskers); simply all must be themes, innovations in renewables, sustainable energy, water systems, building, biomass, transport but not limited to these. A Country or State or Municipality can also represent itself as a Renewables Leader in the Parade.
Floats
Your float can be thirty-six (36) or twenty-four (24) feet long. If must also be "road-worthy". Essentially, a float is a strong platform, usually wood, with an axle and ample wheels. They can be pulled by a vehicle or house a drive system. Remember your float has to hold the weight of your creation and the performers on it. We can guide you or even better, construct it for you. We are garnering a warehouse facility to build these floats and ship off to our marshalling location the day prior to the Parade where you can apply finishing touches. We will assist with drawings shortly.
Can we place an electric vehicle in the Parade?
Yes indeed. It must be proven "road-worthy" by your vehicular authorities and you can obtain a permit here in the Province of Ontario. We can assist you here.
Should you have performers?
Even if you have a float or vehicle it is wise to have performers (choose from your employees and family, they will have a ball) on adjoining sides. They can carry signage, flags, banners....
About the live broadcast
Every leg of the Parade will be filmed with commentators and broadcast widely around the world—rain or shine! So folks in Paris, Bangalore, Tokyo and Sydney can watch on the tube and on the web.
