Downtown Toronto - 10:00 am, Saturday, May 30, 2009 Rain or Shine!
Yes! DECADE will host the first green, renewables parade in the world, in Toronto. There is simply no more perfect venue. Here’s why Toronto is an incredible place for a parade.
- Under Mayor Miller Toronto is one of the world's leading renewables cities
- Clean, wide roads
- Great support from the city
- Great diversity (Toronto loves everyone)
- Ample parking , restaurants and hotels
- Breathtaking beauty (view from the Gardiner!)
- Easy international access
- Endless business support
- Great attractions (theatre, galleries, museums, home of the CN Tower)
- Great inter and intra-city transport
And now more than ever this will be the weekend to attend from close-by citizens and businesses stressed by the high cost of travel including Ontario, New York state and Quebec. Torontonians already enjoy the incredible Caribana, Pride and Santa Claus parades reporting record high attendance.
What's in the Parade?
The DECADE Parade will feature floats, performers, bands themed around renewable everything. It is a green parade so think different!
Worldwide Broadcasting
Every leg of the Parade will be filmed and broadcast widely around the world—rain or shine! So you folks in Paris, Bangalore, Tokyo and Sydney can watch on the tube and on the web.
Parade Trajectory
Specific roads are still being reviewed to accommodate the scope of the parade, crowds, security and television crews. In the end, the DECADE will be downtown Toronto.
Event Map
The Parade map and itinerary will be available soon on this page and printed in the DECADE event guides, one of which is pocket sized.
Parade Floats And Performances
Can't tell you what we are planning here; but you have never seen a parade like this. Maybe Mr. Mayor will help us find a way to roll a gargantuan wind turbine down the streets. Here are few teasers: electric vehicles and solar gadgets.
Famous Paraders
More surprises here. DECADE will be bringing renown leaders in the world of renewables and emissions reduction. And a few famous entertainment activists will be peppered throughout the PARADE.
Parade Stations
Kiosks will be located along the trajectory with maps, guides, DECADE caps, DECADE recyclable bottles, DECADE tee shirts, DECADE flags and other souvenirs.
Official Parade Stops
Along the way restaurants and cafes will be designated Official DECADE Stops. They will sell official DECADE fare and menu items at preferred rates. Yes, there will be an Official Decade drink! They will be marked on the DECADE Map.
Decade Pavilions Along The Way
The DECADE Map will locate the proximity of Pavilions of interest to you so you can choose your parking location or public transit stop to take advantage of the Parade.
Decade Intra-City Transportation
Bikes rentals stations, buses, subways -- all be shown on the DECADE Map. Rickshaws are a fun option.
